Frontier Airlines Passenger Recounts Terrifying Wheel Malfunction During Landing in Puerto Rico

A Frontier Airlines passenger recounted a harrowing experience when one of the plane’s wheels broke off during a landing in Puerto Rico on Tuesday. MELANI GONZALEZ WHARTON, who was on the flight, shared her ordeal on Facebook, detailing the terrifying moments as the Airbus A321 attempted to land at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

“For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on earth,” WHARTON wrote in her post.

WHARTON described watching the incident unfold from her window as the plane approached the runway. “We were landing, and the landing was very bad, aggressive, and at a high speed. This caused one of the tires on the front of the plane to break and catch fire,” she explained.

Frontier Flight 5306, carrying 228 passengers from Florida to Puerto Rico, experienced a mechanical issue that led to the wheel breaking off on final approach, according to Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día.

Flight investigator LUIS IRIZARRY told Puerto Rico’s WAPA-TV that the incident appeared to involve the plane’s young co-pilot, who was initially in command before the captain took over to safely land the aircraft.

In her Facebook post, WHARTON expressed concern about the crew’s experience, stating, “The reality is that we were flying in the hands of inexperts,” referring to the co-pilot.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Fox News Digital reached out to Frontier Airlines for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
