A 32-year-old man, identified only as S, has broken his silence after accusing his stepmother, KIMBERLY SULLIVAN, of holding him captive for two decades in their Waterbury, Connecticut, home. In a statement released Tuesday through his spokesperson, DAVID GUARINO of Survivors Say, S expressed gratitude for the support he has received since his escape.
“I am much better and stronger than I was the day the first responders carried me out of my home,” S said. “I am beyond grateful for the care I have received since then. To all the health care professionals who have helped and nurtured me, thank you. In addition to all of your care, I appreciated the chance to have my first-ever birthday party to celebrate turning 32.”
S also thanked first responders, law enforcement, and Safe Haven Waterbury for their assistance. He acknowledged the GoFundMe page set up to help cover his expenses and expressed gratitude to his conservator and attorney for guiding him through the legal process.
“Much has already been said that tells part of the story of the abuse I endured. Someday, perhaps my whole story will be told,” S added. He urged the public and media to respect the ongoing investigations and his privacy, emphasizing, “This isn’t just a story. It’s my life.”
S allegedly set fire to the home on February 27, telling first responders he wanted his freedom. Following an investigation, KIMBERLY SULLIVAN was arrested on March 12 and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, cruelty to persons, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
According to an arrest warrant, S claimed he was confined to a windowless 8-foot by 9-foot storage closet with no air conditioning, heat, or access to a bathroom for 20 years. He reportedly received two sandwiches and two small water bottles daily, one of which he used for bathing. When found, S weighed less than 70 pounds.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, IOANNIS KALOIDIS, SULLIVAN‘s attorney, denied the allegations, stating, “My client adamantly denies that there was any imprisonment. As for the whole history, there’s a lot that I anticipate will come out over the course of the trial.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to SULLIVAN‘s legal team for further comment.
